Carlisle United won’t be travelling to Northampton as tomorrow’s League Two game was postponed after a morning inspection.
But the two clubs have moved quickly to rearrange the fixture and instead will go head-to-head on Tuesday at Sixfields, kick-off 7.45pm.
An EFL appointed referee declared the pitch unplayable for Saturday after a week of extreme freezing temperatures which are again expected overnight.
While temperatures are predicted to be on the rise from Saturday afternoon it was considered not reasonable to expect the pitch to thaw sufficiently by kick-off time on that day, and in order to consider the travelling arrangements for supporters of both clubs, an early decision was felt appropriate.
However, with milder temperatures forecast from Sunday onwards, the two clubs have quickly agreed to rearrange the fixture and any tickets purchased for Saturday’s game will be valid for Tuesday’s game.
Carlisle’s chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “We understand the quick turnaround may make it difficult for fans to rearrange their travel plans in order to attend this fixture.
“With an already long period since our last game was played and the significant improvement of the weather forecast for next week, it was felt that a quick rescheduling was the best option.”
The game will be available to watch on iFollow – any iFollow passes purchased for Saturday’s game will also be valid for Tuesday.
Anyone needing a refund must return their ticket to Brunton Park before 4pm on Monday December 19.
Carlisle have now had their last two games postponed (home to Barrow last Saturday) and Northampton had been hopeful of getting tomorrow’s game on. They had the pitch covered but plunging temperatures proved too much.
