Barrow’s efforts to play their League Two home game with Swindon were successful – but the end product wasn’t.
After two morning inspections referee Robert Lewis decided the Holker Street pitch was fit for play and the Robins proceeded to take all three points from a 1-0 victory.
On a bleak day in League Two it was only one of two fixtures that were completed and the victory – although their first since the end of October – pushed them up to fourth in the table.
The points were, in fact, settled by a seventh minute penalty after Barrow goalkeeper Paul Farman brought down Jacob Wakeling after being put in trouble by Tyrell Warren’s poor back pass.
Louis Reed was accurate from 12 yards drilling the ball from the spot into the bottom corner.
Farman went on to keep Barrow in contention as he made a number of fine saves to thwart Wakeling, Tyrese Shade and former Bluebirds’ full-back Remeao Hutton.
It was really only in the later stages of the game that Barrow offered serious threats with Richie Bennett going close with a header which clipped the outside of the post.
Patrick Brough also had a decent chance but his effort was narrowly wide.
Right at the end Swindon almost doubled their lead but Farman produced a great save to deny Tomi Adeloye who was through one-on-one.
The defeat saw Barrow drop to sixth in the table with county rivals Carlisle (who play on Tuesday night) one place below in the final play-off spot.
