Carlisle United continued to make it a merry Christmas for their fans with a fine 3-0 win at Crewe.
It was important to follow-up Saturday’s win over Bradford City and they did so impressively when they had less possession than their hosts.
In all the other main stats they came out on top – the 3-0 result, 14 shots, six of them on target, to Crewe’s six shots of which only one was on target.
They got off to a great start on six minutes when captain Morgan Feeney reached Owen Moxon’s corner to flick it beyond keeper Arthur Okonkwo into the far corner.
The best efforts of the first half came from Carlisle as Okonkwo did well to push round the post an effort from Jack Stretton and then denied the same player, also blocking a follow-up effort from Jotdan Gibson.
Crewe only really threatened twice but couldn’t make Tomas Holy work. Dan Agyei shot just over and Joel Tabiner was narrowly wide.
Carlisle’s second goal came a minute into the second half when Jack Armer got forward to head Gibson’s cross to Moxon who fired accurately past Okonkwo.
It proved a disastrous opening for Crewe as on 51 minutes skipper Luke Offord was shown a straight red by referee Andy Haines for an off-the-ball incident with Stretton.
The third goal came on 72 minutes when substitute Kristian Dennis was given a clear run on goal from his own half and went on to beat Okonkwo with a clinical finish.
Carlisle will be looking for a maximum seasonal points haul when they travel to Doncaster on Sunday.
