A new cinema is getting ready to open its doors at Workington’s Dunmail Park shopping centre.

Parkway Entertainment Company Ltd have announced its new multi-screen cinema will open in early 2023 – but are yet to announce an exact date.

The independent cinema company have fully redeveloped the venue with neon lights, new signage, tile floors, modern seating and a bar now all visible to shoppers.

Licencing plans for the cinema to sell alcohol and show regulated entertainment, which includes films, were submitted to Allerdale Borough Council back in November ahead of the new year opening goal.

The independent cinema company was founded in 1983 and owns several venues across the UK including Louth, Cleethorpes, Barnsley and Beverley.

Dunmail Park was formerly home to the Plaza Cinema, which announced its closure in April 2021 following 20 years of service after it was unable to agree on lease terms.

In 2021, the owners of the Plaza Cinema, Graves Ltd, announced the opening of The Ritz, a new three-screen venue which is situated in the town centre.
