A volunteer bus service which connects people in north Cumbria needs new people to help it expand.

Border Rambler takes passengers from villages around Carlisle in and out of the city and Brampton on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

It is having a new bus delivered soon and needs up to 12 volunteers to help it run services on more days and cover new areas.

Trustees said: “A new bus, delivered early in 2023, would enable us to expand the service, running on more days and covering new areas.

“We are looking for volunteers to join the team of drivers. This involves two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon, with a couple of hours free in Carlisle or Brampton while the passengers are doing their shopping.

“All the current drivers find volunteering really rewarding, with most taking a turn at the wheel once or twice a month.”

Now in its eighth year of operation, it runs from villages including Laversdale, Irthington, Hethersgill, Scaleby Hill and Linstock to Carlisle on Tuesdays and Fridays and to and from Brampton via Lanercost and Birdoswald to Gilsland, returning via the Dentons and Low Row on Wednesdays.

Full details of the current services can be found at www.borderramblerbus.co.uk
