Work is set to restart on the final phases of the £7.4 million project to resurface the A592 from Windermere to Penrith.

Bad weather forced contractors to stop work before Christmas but Hanson will return on Tuesday, January 10, to complete the resurfacing between Brackenrigg and Waterfoot junction.

The road will be closed and work will take place between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Outside of working hours, access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk, said Cumbria County Council.

It is hoped work will end on Thursday, January 12, weather permitting, completing phase four of the project.

Hanson will then move onto the final section – Waterfoot junction to Rheged.

Work will begin on Wednesday, January 18 until Tuesday February 7.

During this period the road will be closed with work taking place between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Outside of working hours, access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk.

Councillor Keith Little, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We want to thank the public and businesses for their patience and support, while we make these necessary repairs to the A592.

“We do apologise that we cannot carry out these works using temporary traffic lights, but due to health and safety implications, we must protect both members of the public and our workforce, and safety is our priority.”
