A Cumbrian Rotary club is helping to keep the lights on in war-torn Ukraine.
Kendal Rotary is working with a Rotarian in Gloucestershire, who owns agricultural supply firms in England and Poland. He is shipping generators to Ukraine, to be used in schools and medical facilities.
The Kendal club has donated £1,100, which will help pay for two generators.
Trevor Hughes, of the Rotary Club of Kendal, said: “Rotary clubs throughout the UK have been helping with humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
“Clubs in both countries have been contacting each other in order to establish priorities, with Ukrainians facing continued military attack which has been made worse by severe winter weather. A recent zoom meeting provided direct communication between Rotarians in both countries.
“Rotary is a significant international movement, and it is wonderful to see its influence and links used in this way. The situation in Ukraine is a human tragedy, and we are so grateful to be able to help, even in a small way.”
