When Creighton travelled south to take on Hawcoat Park in Counties 1 Cumbria earlier in the season they lost 41-5.
The League is now split for the second phase of the campaign so the return trip offered a guide to the progress that Creighton have made this season.
Indeed it finished 17-5 this time to the hosts, an indication that Creighton have been moving in the right direction.
A great start saw the visitors take the lead after only five minutes.
After a number of pick and drives by the forwards Alex Taylor crashed over to open the scoring.
Goal kicking was always going to be a lottery in the conditions, and George Dudley missed the conversion.
Hawcoat Park hit back immediately and scored a converted try following a quickly taken penalty to lead 7-5, which was how the score remained at half time.
A howling wind blowing straight across the pitch meant that running rugby was never going to be an option, and the home side went on to dominate the second half.
Hawcoat Park were excellent at the set pieces and kicked well from hand, meaning Creighton had little possession and found it difficult to launch any serious attacks.
Despite their superiority the Barrow side didn’t score again until the 68th minute, and finished with just two unconverted tries.
- One of the games in the top half of the split League, between Cockermouth and Whitehaven, was postponed. Originally due to be played at Cockermouth, it was moved because of a serious leak at the Strawberry How clubhouse but the Whitehaven pitch was ruled unplayable on the day.
