Kendal Model Railway Club is celebrating 60 years of railway modelling in 2023 and members are looking forward to their next exhibition.
On January 28 and 29, it will be held at Kendal Leisure Centre and the club is promising something for every train fan.
The club’s award-winning layout, Scorbiton, will be present along with several visiting layouts from around the country.
A spokesman said: “Add to this a good selection of traders and railway society stands it all adds up to an entertaining and interesting few hours. It is not unknown for some visitors to attend both days! The club website carries full details including admission prices.”
Set up in 1963, the club has had a number of homes over the years, including someone’s cellar and a room in the Friends Meeting House!
According to the club, its founding members could not agree on which night to meet initially, so they met every weeknight!
A number of layouts have been constructed over the years, some of which have visited exhibitions across the country including their own. This continues today, based at the club’s current home, the Bryce Institute in Burneside.
The club has offered an exhibition every year since inception, bar 2021, due to COVID-19.
The spokesman added: “For many years the show was a one-day event in the town hall which eventually proved cramped and limiting. In 2000 the venue changed to the Kendal Leisure Centre and in 2003 the current two day format was introduced and has proved popular with around 1,400 visitors or more attending over the two days.
“The club is looking forward to welcoming visitors old and new at the end of the month.”
