Half-back Jodie Litherland is to continue as captain for Barrow Raiders Ladies in the forthcoming 2023 Betfred Women’s Super League season.
Having skippered the side to a second-placed finish in the Women’s Championship in 2021, Litherland led the Raiders Ladies into their debut season in Super League last year.
She went on to play an instrumental role as the squad secured a play-off berth.
She said: “I couldn’t be prouder to continue as captain for this team. It means a lot, and it also means my team-mates and the coaching staff believe in me and the ways I operate.
“I give my all, I am massively competitive and want to win in every moment, and I’m glad we have an environment now where everyone wants that too.
“I love this club and I love this team. I want to lead my home town into the Women’s Super League for 2024.”
Litherland will be assisted by Emily Stirzaker, who has been promoted to the role of vice-captain ahead of the new campaign.
Stirzaker has been involved with Barrow Raiders Ladies since its formation as a player and team manager.
She played for Wigan Warriors in 2021, making seven appearances and scoring three tries, before returning to the Raiders Ladies ahead of their debut Super League campaign.
Stirzaker said: “Playing for my hometown club with my mates already makes me very proud, especially because I know how much hard work we have put in over the years to get where we are today.
“So, obviously I was over the moon when I found out I had been chosen by the coaching staff to be vice-captain this year. I was part of the leadership team last season alongside a few other players that Amanda chose to help out, but obviously being vice is a step up.
“I am looking forward to working alongside our fantastic captain Jodie, leading from the front and hopefully helping the team secure promotion into Group 1 of Super League.
“I think me and Jodie will complement each other well and I am looking forward to getting stuck into the role.”
