Reports north of the border are suggesting Carlisle United and Barrow are rivals to sign a striker who appears surplus to requirements at Motherwell.
Connor Shields, 25, is the forward in question who has been pushed down the pecking order through the arrival of former Gillingham striker Mikael Mandron last week.
Shields joined the Steelmen from Queen of the South on a three-year deal in July 2021 but has netted just three goals in over 50 appearances.
Frenchman Mandron is seen as the main back-up or support for Dutch frontman Kevin van Veen and Shields’ might not get the game time he would like over the second half of the season.
Shields started his career with Albion Rovers in 2015 and scored nine goals in 39 games for the League Two side.
His form earned him a move south to Sunderland but he spent one season there on loan with Alloa Athletic for whom he scored three times in 30 games.
When released by Sunderland he joined Aldershot in the National League and also had a spell with Billericay Town on loan.
In 2020 he joined Queen of the South and after eight goals in 22 games was snapped up by Motherwell.
