Emergency services are in attendance at Crosby Garrett, near Kirkby Stephen, following an incident on the Carlisle to Settle railway line.

A train, which witnesses say was heading towards Kirkby Stephen, has been halted on the line for more than two hours and a number of police and fire service vehicles and ambulances have been reported at the scene.

British Transport Police were called to the scene at 9.19am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesman said: “Officers searched the area and located a person who has now been taken to hospital for assessment. Their injuries are not deemed to be life threatening or life changing.”

According to train operator Northern, services are unable to operate through the affected area and this is hitting the Leeds to Carlisle route.

A spokesman said: “Services are currently only operating between Kirkby Stephen and Skipton. Staff and the emergency services are aware of the incident and are on site.”
