Workington Comets’ first visitors to Northside in the National Development League on May 13 have just made their first signing.
Edinburgh have announced Kyran Lyden as the first recruit for their rebranded National Development League team.
The 20-year-old Teessider made four appearances for the club last season when they were racing under the Armadale name and impressed enough to book a return.
Lyden said: “I’m buzzing to be back at Edinburgh this year. I loved my time with the team in 2022, the team spirit was unreal, and the promotion helped me out a lot. It was a no-brainer for me to return for the new season.
“This year I’m keen to push on further and for the team to do better. We have a new face in the management role and I’m excited to see what he brings. I’m sure the team will be looking good and we will all want to win.”
Workington completed their full seven-man team before Christmas and have assembled a competitive group of riders.
Meanwhile a former Workington rider is among the first two competitors to be named for the annual fund-raising Benevolent Fund Bonanza at the Adrian Flux Arena, King’s Lynn.
Grand Prix star Fredrik Lindgren and former Comets man Simon Lambert are the first two riders confirmed for the meeting on March 25 (5pm.
Swedish great Lindgren will be appearing in the fund-raising event for the third time after racing in 2009-10 at Sheffield and Rye House – whilst current Scunthorpe skipper Lambert will also compete in his third Bonanza.
Lambert said: “I’m honoured to ride in the Ben Fund again, obviously what everybody who works for the Ben Fund does, not just for the guys who get injured this year but the long-term injured riders, is fantastic and has been over the years. I’ve used it myself and I think it’s great that it is one of the first meetings of the season.
“It attracts a better crowd, everyone wants their methanol fix at that stage. I am so pleased Freddie Lindgren is doing it, I’m not a big name compared to Freddie Lindgren and to get him is brilliant. There’s a lot of people out there who want to do it for such a good cause.”
Lambert, 33, rode for the Comets in 2014 and has been riding around the speedway scene since 2004 when he started with Boston Barracudas.
