A strong second-half performance from Barrow Raiders earned them a 26-14 win over a Wigan Warriors side at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.
It had been a tight, fairly even first-half which ended with Barrow levelling at 4-4 after the hooter had sounded.
They kept the ball moving as the hooter was blown and it ended with Rio Corkill forcing his way through the Wigan defence to score.
Ryan Shaw’s conversion attempt was blown off course by the wind.
Wigan had gone in front on 30 minutes after a period of heavy pressure ended with Abbas Miski finding enough room to score an unconverted try in the corner.
Although only one try each it had been an absorbing and entertaining first half.
Six minutes into the second-half Barrow took the lead. The ball was switched out wide after a probe down the middle and Luke Broadbent scored in the corner. This time Shaw made the conversion count.
But Wigan weren’t long in responding and after 53 minutes they were level. Tom Forber dived over for the try which Zack Eckersley converted.
Barrow regained the lead just after the hour when a perfect grubber kick from Jarrad Sammut on final tackle bounced nicely for Jake Carter to score under the posts. Shaw converted for a 16-10 lead.
They quickly added to the advantage on 66 minutes when they made good ground before releasing Shaw and he swept over in the corner for an unconverted try.
It was still an open game and Wigan cut back the lead after 71 minutes when Miski scored his second try but Eckersley couldn’t convert.
Two minutes from the end Barrow sealed it when a super break by Ellis Archer took Barrow to within ten metres of the Wigan line.
Although Shaw was then held-up Raiders moved the ball to the right and Luke Cresswell went over for the try which Shaw converted.
