Cleator Moor face a major challenge to save their North West Counties League status over the next two months.
A 3-0 home defeat to Bacup Borough left the West Cumbrians bottom of Division One North five points off safety.
Manager Brian Dawson was brutally honest in his assessment of the game in which his young Celtic side finished with 10 men.
“It was a poor performance especially in the first-half when we weren’t our usual selves in possession.
“You could argue that after a month without a competitive fixture this was to be expected but in truth we just weren’t good enough.
“Their first shot was a tame shot along the floor which hit a divot and flew into the top corner when our keeper Luke McKnight went to ground to collect.
“When you’re down then these are the things that constantly go against you – but that’s football.
“The second-half there was a reaction from the lads but we were chasing the game. Once Rhys Little got sent off for two yellows it was really over as a contest.
“We can’t sugar coat things. We’ve got a huge challenge ahead in the coming months if we are to stay in this League.
“There is no alternative but to try and dust ourselves down and go again next week at Euxton Villa.”
It will be a tough one as their hosts are lying fourth looking to cement a play-off place.
Bacup had secured their fortunate lead after only ten minutes through Toby Wright and added the second through Kyle Siddle on 35 minutes.
Emmanuel Ujahchuku wrapped up the win for the visitors 10 minutes from the end.
