A man has appeared in court accused of conspiring to commit arson and illegal prison mobile phone possession.
Kane Luke Hull, 30, formerly of no fixed address, faces three charges.
One alleges that he conspired with another man, at Durham on October 3 last year, to commit arson on a vehicle belonging to a man.
Two other charges — said to be linked to that allegation — allege that Hull illegally possessed a prohibited mobile phone, without authority on October 11 inside HMP Frankland in County Durham.
At a short hearing before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today, Hull appeared remotely over a video link. He spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and a place of residence.
No pleas were entered to the three charges faced by Hull, who was represented by defence lawyer Terry Naylor.
The court heard the conspiracy allegation was classed as indictable only, meaning it can only be dealt with at a crown court.
After hearing representations from prosecutor George Shelley, magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court.
Hull is due to appear there in front of a judge on March 2 when a plea and trial preparation is due to take place.
