Members of Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team took to the water to help a walker in trouble at the far side of the lake.
A woman had fallen and hurt her ankle on the screes path while out yesterday, February 11.
A couple, who were passing, called Cumbria police and the mountain rescue team was called out at around 12.50pm.
An advance foot party arrived, assessed her injury, provided pain relief and applied a splint to make her more comfortable.
Meanwhile, other members of the team mobilised their boat and made their way to the incident.
The team said: “A short transfer was made to the boat, and then the walker was ferried to the other side of the lake in a well rehearsed manoeuvre.

“More team members were waiting there for another short journey to the land ambulance, and her onward transfer to hospital.
“We wish the walker a swift recovery and would like to thank the passing couple for their help.”

The volunteers were out for around two hours and 45 minutes and the callout involved 20 members.
As the first callout was still ongoing a second call was received from Cumbria police. Another walker had slipped and had a serious injury.
The team said: “Due to the resources already committed, and the potential for a serious injury, further assistance was requested from the Great North Air Ambulance for helicopter support.
“They duly obliged but unfortunately the ground was too steep to get a landing site close enough to help. The Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon with winching capability was then dispatched along with extra support from our friends at Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team.”

Wasdale team members arrived on scene, assessed the walker, gave pain relief and splinted the leg.
The Coastguard helicopter team was able to winch the walker into the helicopter and transfer to hospital. The team then escorted the walker’s partner back to the valley floor.
The team said: “We wish the walker well and hope to see her back on the fell soon. We’d like to thank both helicopter crews and Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team for their help once again.”
