Steam trains have travelled through Cumbria – causing excitement along the railway lines and at Carlisle station.
A large crowd of railway enthusiasts gathered at Carlisle Railway station at lunchtime yesterday for the rare sight of two steam trains arriving in the city just a few minutes apart.
However, due to the late arrival of the second train, the opportunity for spectators was missed by minutes.
First to arrive at around 12.30pm at platform 4, was locomotive Royal Scot hauling the Lakelander excursion from Rugby. The train stayed in
the city until 3.30pm when it departed via the Cumbria Coast line.
On platform 3, locomotive Scots Guardsman arrived around 12.45pm with the Cumbrian Mountain Express excursion. The locomotive stayed in the city until 2.23pm when it departed via the picturesque Carlisle to Settle line.
