Cleaning staff at the Sellafield nuclear site in West Cumbria have voted to go on strike over pay.
Over 300 Mitie workers who are members of the GMB union have decided to take industrial action because, they claim, the firm has broken its promise to raise pay.
The union said Mitie promised to up workers’ pay from November last year to help with the cost of living crisis.
Now they say a pay rise will only be paid from April – six months later.
Workers and GMB representatives will meet in the coming days to discuss strike dates.
Oli Slack, GMB Organiser, said: “These workers are rightly furious after broken promises from Mitie bosses. These men and women do a back-breaking, often dirty job keeping this huge nuclear site clean.
“Mitie promised them a pay rise in November – they should stick to it. GMB is ready to get back round the table to avert this industrial action.”
A Mitie spokesman said: “We’re disappointed that some GMB members have voted to take industrial action, given the significant pay increase that has been offered.
“In addition to this pay uplift, we recently announced a £10m Winter Support package designed to help the lowest paid colleagues across Mitie with the rising cost of living.
“We would welcome continued engagement with GMB to reach a resolution. As always, our priority is to ensure that services are delivered and there is no disruption should strike action occur.”
Mitie’s Winter Support package included a £50 e-voucher that could be used at over 100 retailers, a one-off bonus of up to £125 and free Mitie shares.
