A new restaurant has opened on Egremont main street.
MAQs – owned by Maq Masi and formerly known as The Cat Inn – recently re-opened its doors with a new look after a full interior and exterior refurbishment over the Christmas period.
The team at MAQs said they decided to make the change from a pub to a restaurant after feeling as though the main street was in need of a new place to eat.

Manager Elise MacKenzie said: “MAQs has been well received so far and customer feedback has been supportive and encouraging, a lot of customers were unaware we had in fact changed to a restaurant full-time.
“The renovation was needed in order to visually identify as a restaurant instead of a pub. We wanted to create a contemporary space that reflected our dining experience for our old and new customers to love.”
The new menu on offer at the restaurant has been conceptualised by head chef Jamie, who has previously run his own fish restaurant on the Isle of Wight and worked in an à la carte restaurant for Jean Christophe Novelli.

Elise added: “The food we offer now is a mix of various types of cuisine, reflecting our head chef’s long and experienced career. The dishes range from seared scallops to traditional Sunday roasts, pasta, curries and light bites for lunch.
“Part of the change in the business is to provide good quality fish dishes as part of our weekly specials, which seem to have been welcomed well with our customers.”
