Carlisle United crashed to their worst defeat of the season, beaten 4-0 at home by promotion rivals Mansfield Town.
All the goals came in the first-half as Nigel Clough’s Stags had the points wrapped-up by half-time against a strangely jaded Carlisle side.
Goals from captain Ollie Clarke, Alfie Kilgour, Lucas Akins and Elliott Hewitt had the 212 travelling fans enjoying every minute of this Valentine’s Day massacre!
It was Clarke who started the first-half goal spree on 14 minutes when he got on the end of Stephen Quinn’s cross and powered a header past Tomas Holy.
Kilgour, who joined the Stags in the January window, grabbed his third goal in four games when he also found the net with a poerful header, this one from a corner by Davis Keillor-Dunn.
Keillor-Dunn earned a penalty when he was brought down by Morgan Feeney inside the box and Akins thumped home his seventh goal of the season from the spot.
It was one of those nights when everything seemed to come off for Mansfield and a fine curling effort from Elliott Hewitt gave them a fourth before the interval.
Carlisle boss Paul Simpson made three changes at the break but they never seriously looked like getting back into the game.
Mansfield keeper Christy Pym tipped over an Owen Moxon free kick and Feeney had a chance with a header but put it wide.
Indeed the nearest to a fifth goal was Mansfield’s Will Swan who hit the post two minutes from the end.
