Workington Reds have added to their squad by signing former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Lewis Farmer.
The Manchester-born 20-year-old spent four years at Hillsborough during which time he skippered the Owls’ Under-18s side. He signed his first professional contract at Hillsborough in July 2020, extending it by a year 12 months later.
Farmer became a key player in the Wednesday Under-23s side and it was something of a surprise when he was released, one of nine to be allowed to leave Hillsborough.
He has been training with the Reds squad and watched two of their recent games and comes into contention for Saturday’s big clash at Borough Park against leaders Macclesfield.
Reds currently have midfielder Brad Hubbold sidelined with a calf injury and that could keep him out for at least two more weeks.
Before being released by Wednesday, Farmer had one short loan spell at Redditch in the Southern Premier Division.
