
Workington Golf Club A have maintained their L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One lead.
In the latest round of matches they scored a 4-1 home win against Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.
A Ryan Ismay victory put the golfer’s 1-0 up and with team mate Mark Brasted winning in frame two an important early advantage was gained.
Bryan Walker kept up his excellent form with a win in the next and as Phil Sorfleet proved victorious in frame four a Golf Club A whitewash was on the cards.
This soon evaporated however as Peter McAvoy took the last frame to save the Rack Shack’s blushes.
Workington Golf Club A sit top of Division One on 46 points and Whitehaven’s Rack Shack remain third in Division Two on 21 points.
Workington Conservative Club made sure they didn’t lose any ground in their Division One title defence with a 4-1 home win against Workington Golf Club B as they matched their rivals winning score.
Richard McCarthy and Julian Plaza made short work of the first two frames for a 2-0 Cons lead and with a thumping victory in frame three Alan Moore pushed the score on to 3-0.
A close victory for Dave Holland took the lead out to 4-0 but with Ryan Pearson producing an excellent win in the last the Golf Club B nicked a point.
Workington Cons move into second in Division One on 41 points and the Golf Club B remain fifth in Division Two on ten points.
Division Two leaders Flimby Social produced a significant home win against their closest rivals as they defeated Workington’s Station Road Club 3-2.
A brilliant clearance of 56 from Kevin Kirkham took care of the first frame and with Michael ‘Sid’ Walker winning a close second Flimby were 2-0 to the good.
Back came Station Road as Stephen Lowery make it 2-1 but Flimby were in no mood to let the match slip.
With one of his best performances of the season Sal Cakmak put his team into an unassailable 3-1 lead.
The last produced another close affair but it was Darren Lawson who came out on top to take what could be an important point for the Workington outfit.
Flimby sit at the top of Division Two on 38 points with Station Road one place lower on 31 points.
Workington’s Veterans Club delivered the week’s most convincing win as they ran out 5-0 home victors against Maryport Social.
Kevin Basnett opened up with what turned out to be a frame winning break of 31 and as Mark Tunstall finished his frame off with a nice contribution of 37 the Vets were 2-0 in front.
Up next Mark Tatton played solidly to take it to 3-0 and with Steve Garroway scrapping it out for 4-0 ominous signs were already in full view.
In the last a late surge by Gary Miller looked to be enough but it was the Vets who took the frame to record a whitewash.
Vets stay fourth in Division One on 37 points and Maryport Social also remain stationary in fourth in Division Two on 19 points.
