Having lost to Penrith A twice this season, albeit both away from home, Creighton were delighted to win the home clash 25-22.
It was an excellent game in Counties 2 Conference between two closely matched teams playing in the right spirit, and well refereed.
Despite the free-flowing rugby on display, the first score didn’t occur until 27 minutes when the visitors took the lead with a penalty from Sam Dudson.
Before half time fly half George Dudley kicked two penalties for the home side to give them the edge at the break at 6-3.
In contrast to the first 40 minutes there was a flurry of scores early in the second half with centre Tom Verlaque crossing after been put into a gap by Dudley, who also added the conversion. Five minutes later speedy winger Joe O’Donnell scored in the corner after slick handling in the backs to make the score 18-3
Penrith then came back strongly scoring two tries in quick succession, one of which was converted to close the gap to 18-15. Will Morgan and Dudson got over for the tries, one of which was converted by Dudson.
More good handling by the Creighton backs enabled Tom Riley to dive in at the corner, with Dudley converting superbly from the touch line.
The visitors refused to lie down and hit back with a long range try under the posts from Dudson which he converted, and with three minutes to go there was only three points between the teams.
Creighton, however, managed to hang on and were grateful to hear the final whistle to record their fourth win of the season.
