
The big meetings keep coming for Workington Comets at their new Northside home track.
After the British Under-21s semi-final, a round of the British Youth championship and inaugural Women’s Open Championship they have now been handed the National League Riders Championship.
In a nod to the professional way the new Comets promotion has gone about revamping the Northside raceway they have been rewarded with this latest major meeting.
The National League Riders Championship is set to be staged at the Workington venue on Sunday September 24 with a 2pm start.
Joint promoters Andrew Bain and Steve Lawson are delighted to have been allocated the British Speedway shared event in their inaugural season as the National League’s premier individual meeting.
Especially as it added to the calendar along with the already announced British Under 21 Semi-Final and the fourth round of the British Youth Championship, which also includes the Women’s Open. to supplement the club’s league and cup fixtures.
The top average riders from each of the eight teams in the league will make up a sixteen strong field and with home track advantage there will be some strong competition amongst the Comets riders as they look to stake their claim to represent the team.

Former Champions include a number of riders with Workington connections including Maryport based present Grand Prix star Dan Bewley who was victorious in 2017 while riding for the Belle Vue Colts.
The current title holder is Jordan Jenkins of the Oxford Chargers and among the list of previous winners is three times World Champion Tai Woffinden.
Extensive work has taken place to transform the facility and bring Workington back into competitive racing, after the Comets last raced at nearby Derwent Park in 2018.
