Two Cumbrian businesses are representing the North of England in the grand final of the Countryside Alliance Awards.
Roast Mutton, in Kendal, was named the north’s butchers of the year and Heft, in High Newton, claimed the pub category in the regional final.
Both will now represent the north in the final and winners will be announced on May 17.
Robert Unwin, who owns Roast Mutton, said: ”The entire team is over the moon, and we want to say a huge thank you to all of our brilliant customers and members of the public who have voted for us and helped us get this far. Winning the North of England title is really special, and we’ve all got our fingers crossed for the grand final in May.’’

Heft’s co-owner Nicola Tickle said: ”Winning the North of England title is fantastic news. From the outset we’ve set out to do something different and ensure that our small village pub is an asset to the local community. Winning the North of England regional title certainly recognises that what we are doing at Heft and is being well received and we want to thank everyone that has supported us in getting this far.’’
