Kendal Town’s poor run of away form continued last night when they went down 5-2 at Wythenshawe.
It continued a pattern where Kendal have struggled in mid-week games away from home but home matches on Saturday have produced a string of good results.
Chairman Michael O’Neill said: “I struggle because of work to get to away games in mid-week and that’s the same for a number of players which has affected our team strength.
“We had a very good 4-0 home win over Squire’s Gate on Saturday and then had players missing for the trip to Wythenshawe.
“On Saturday we do have an away game at Bury so we should be stronger for that one which will be a test as they are very much in the title race.”
Second in the table Wythenshawe had the game won by half-time with a 4-0 lead as Benito Lowe (3, 10), Darius Palma (27) AND Brad Byrne (36) fired them well ahead.
Any thoughts the Mintcakes had of a recovery were dented two minutes into the second half when Lowe completed his-hat-trick and it looked like a long night.
But there were no further goals for the hosts and Kendal did have the consolation of late goals from Steve Yawson (76) and Elliot Wilson (83).
“April is going to be a big month for the club with potentially two Cup finals. We are already through to the Westmorland County Cup final on April 29 and on April 8 have a home semi-final with Congleton in the Macron Cup,” said O’Neill.
