The Hound Trailing Association held the first of three trial trails at Moota in mid-week and there was a brilliant turnout with 122 hounds across the three races.
In the puppy trail there were 27 runners and it was Rodney Raider who finished first for Nicola McMaster and David Todhunter, who was followed in by kennelmates and sisters Silver Dream and Sarah Jane.
Silver Dream is owned by Darren and Julie McMaster and Anthony Skelton, while Sarah Jane is owned by Nicola McMaster and Sadie Wilson.
The biggest slip so far in the March trials was in the senior hounds with 53 taking part and it was Graham Reid’s Strawberry Mick who made a burst at the finish to take first place, followed by the Mellon family’s Cracking Spirit ahead of Brian and Joy Lister’s Lady Million.

As the night deteriorated with rain turning heavy 43 hounds took part in the all-in race.
This was over a shorter course and it was Alan Little’s Huntsman’s Quantum who finished first followed by Tracy Hill’s Bobby’s Moon and Alan O’Fee’s Barncroft Express in third.
