Kells and Wath Brow Hornets both have home games in the National Conference Premier Division this weekend.
It isn’t what the neutrals like – amateur rugby league officiandos prefer them to be home and away – as they sample top flight Conference rugby.
But both should be interesting confrontations whichever is taken in by the non-partisan enthusiasts.
Kells started with a good win at Leigh Miners Ranger followed by a commendable performance in defeat at Thatto Heath, so have a chance to record their first points on home soil tomorrow.
They welcome Lock Lane who drew 16-16 last week at home to Wath Brow, but were beaten in their first game of the season at Rochdale Mayfield.
This week the Hornets entertain Hull Dockers, the side which won promotion with Kells last season. They beat York Acorn 36-16 last week while three weeks ago Hornets beat the Acorn 24-0 to get their first of the season on the board.
Comparing results can be misleading but on the evidence of those two scores tomorrow’s game should be a good, even contest – although as always it will depend on the relative strengths of the two teams, particularly the one travelling a long distance.
In Division One Egremont Rangers have lost their two away fixtures, but in between had a big win over Thornhill Trojans at home.
They are back at Gillfoot tomorrow with a visit from Stanningley who were beaten 34-12 at home by Heworth last week.
Barrow Island have made a decent start in Division Two with two wins in three games and tomorrow are at home to East Leeds, thumped 52-16 at Woolston Rovers last week.
Division Three has started with a clutch of Cumbrian derby fixtures for the four competing teams from the county.
Ellenborough have won both of theirs against Seaton and Hensingham but face their biggest test since joining the competition when they travel to Millom who are intent on celebrating the club’s 150th anniversary this year with a trophy.
Hensingham, who got off the mark last week with a 26-18 home win over Eastmoor Dragons, host Seaton Rangers who have struggled in defeats by Elbra and Millom.
In the Cumberland ARL the two EB Lamb Amateur Cup semi-finals which were postponed last week because of waterlogged pitches, are scheduled to go ahead.
Ellenborough A entertain Maryport in a local derby while Wath Brow A will host Lowca.
