Former England and Newcastle striker Peter Beardsley helped kick off the launch of Cumbria’s new MKM Building Supplies branch.
Creating 20 jobs, the purpose-built MKM Carlisle, on Spellar Way, offers building materials and supplies to the public and trade customers. It also has a stunning kitchen and bathroom showroom, as well as an outdoor landscaping display, providing customers with all the home inspiration they need.
Beardsley was joined on site by representatives of the branch’ s chosen local charities – Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, and Cash for Kids – with the football legend signing shirts and enjoying a kick-about with visitors.
Jamie Ross, branch co-director at MKM Carlisle, said: “We’ve got off to a great start on the opening day; it’s been a fantastic blend of everything that we are all about.
“From meeting new customers and getting to know more about their requirements, to strengthening those special links we have with our chosen charities, there’s already been a positive response from across the community.
“We’re here to build long term relationships with our community and everyone on the team is focused on this goal.
“Of course, the icing on the cake for the opening day was having Peter Beardsley here; he is so popular in these parts and always will be. It was great to show him around the branch and introduce him to our team.

“There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes from myself and my fellow branch director Nathan to get us to this point, from building our expert team, to engaging with our local customer base in order to ensure we stock and supply the most suitable product offering.
“We’re delighted to open our doors to the people of Carlisle and look forward to being here for a long time to come.”
Jamie is joined as joint branch director at MKM Carlisle by Nathan Mackay.
