Life member status awarded to Barrow AFC fan

Ryan Sutherland has been awarded life member status by Barrow after the fan spent the last seven years working for the club.

Ryan served in several roles behind the scenes, from media operations, day-to-day operations and his final role as Football Operations and Kit Manager.

Ryan has been a Bluebird for as long as he can remember, and his involvement at Holker Street dates back to when he was a teenager.

“I’ve been a Barrow fan all my life, then when I was 13 I moved a few doors down from George and Christine Dewey who were heavily involved in what was the Bluebird Development Fund at the time,” said the versatile kitman.

“That got me started programme selling and after 10 years living away, a chance conversation with Andrew Casson got me involved ‘behind the scenes’ and I’ve been stuck here ever since!”

Ryan is perhaps best known for his love for travel, transport and aviation. Often using his off days to fly to a different location around the world for a bargain price. So maybe it’s quite fitting that he is swapping the kit room for a train carriage!

He has also been witness to several ups and downs during his tenure, starting life with Paul Cox at the helm and ending it with Pete Wild.

“I’ve had lots of great memories,” he says. “Our return to the EFL and the survival bus ride back from Forest Green are the obvious choices for best moment.

“Two notable moments at Aldershot in 2016/17 too – Ross Hannah’s 96th minute free kick and Luke James’ goal that helped towards our National League survival.”
