No goal-less draw this time – and at least Carlisle hit the target twice – but still just a point from their promotion clash with rivals Stockport County.
The 2-2 draw left the sides level on 72 points, four points outside the automatic promotion places, with just three games to go.
It won’t have gone un-noticed, however, that the team just outside the top seven – Mansfield Town – are only three points behind them in what will clearly be a scramble to finish where it counts.
Stockport had led 1-0 at half-time; the Blues had grabbed a 2-1 lead by the 83rd minute and County levelled with four minutes of the 90 left on the clock.
Myles Hippolyte had given Stockport a 31st-minute lead before Carlisle levelled eight minutes into the second-half. Jon Mellish put away Owen Moxon’s corner.
It was Moxon who gave Carlisle the lead with a superb strike but they were unable to hang onto it as substitute Connor Lemonheigh-Evans headed in for a share of the points.
Home keeper Tomas Holy had made the save of the game to keep Carlisle in it to deny Isaac Olaofe.
Carlisle still have promotion rivals Salford City to play at home and also face tricky trips to Barrow and Sutton United.
