Workington made it an opening weekend to remember when they made progress in the Higson Cup on Sunday.
The only winners on an opening day of the Cubria League season marred by bad weather, they beat Haverigg by six wickets.
Haverigg had won the toss and opted to bat, but they probably soon regretted the decision.
Skipper and opener Drew Postlethwaite went for a duck and Haverigg lost half their side for 34.
It didn’t get much better from there as they were eventually bowled-out for 60 with sub pro Amar Ullah (15) and Kevin Rogan (10) the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Lewis Hull took 4-10 for Workington and new overseas amateur Davis Mills had 3-17.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the hosts as they had a couple of wobbles but eventually got home after just 16 overs on 61-4.
Opener Tom Fox had 17 and Nick Wood was 15 not out at the end. Amar Ullah took 2-21 for Haverigg.
Over 400 runs were scored at Cleator where the home side beat last year’s beaten finalists Wigton by 35 runs.
Darren Clark was the match star for Cleator with 113, figuring in a big third wicket stand with Tom Sharpe (49) after the openers had both gone cheaply.
Darren’s father, the veteran Ian Clark, chipped in with 20 as Cleator closed on 220-7 after their 45 overs.
George Spark was the most successful Wigton bowler taking 4-61.
Wigton’s reply was built around a fourth wicket stand between Chris Hodgson (76) and John Reed (51) but there wasn’t a lot of support after that.
They were eventually bowled-out for 185 as Darren Clark enjoyed an excellent all-round game by taking 4-17.
The third tie played yesterday was another high-scoring affair in which Keswick beat Millom by 13 runs.
Millom were set a revised target of 192 from 41 overs after a stoppage for rain, and they were 178-9 at the close.
Keswick, who had been put into bat, made 200 all out in their 45 overs.
They had made a great start with an opening stand of 105 between Will Atkinson (66) and Stephen Hindmarch.
When Atkinson went Hindmarch stayed to anchor the innings and when he was dismissed for 73 Keswick had reached 184-7.
Apart from the openers the only other Keswick batsman to reach double figures was James Benson (17no).
Graham Dawson was the most successful Millom bowler with 4-22.
Seven of the top eight Millom batsman reached double figures but none could go on and make a sizeable score.
Dawson (29) and opener Robert Thompson (20) were their leading scorers as the innings finished 13 runs adrift.
James McGown (3-36) and Scott McGown (3-39) were the most successful Keswick bowlers.
