The A596 in West Cumbria is set to reopen this weekend, council chiefs said.
Cumberland Council said that the majority of work on a flood alleviation scheme at Flimby, near Maryport, was complete and contractors Cubby Construction Ltd were hoping to reopen the road on Sunday, April 30 – weather permitting.
There will, however, be a traffic management system in place as the council is now moving ahead with the rest of the Flimby Flood Alleviation project initiated by Cumbria County Council.
To alleviate flooding in Flimby and Maryport, the Environment Agency provided £1.5 million from its Flood Defence Grant in Aid fund.
Work on this section of the project began on Tuesday April 11 and was expected to take five weeks but due to the good weather the contractor has been able to complete the work in under three weeks.
Cumberland Council said it would provide further information as work progresses.
