Workington Town’s Australian recruit Sean Sabutey has been named as the League One Player of the Month.
The team was selected by the popular monthly magazine Rugby League World and free-scoring Sabutey got their top vote.
Town scored six tries in their 38-28 win at Midlands Hurricanes early in the month and Sabutey scored five of them. He had notched a hat-trick in the Challenge Cup defeat at Doncaster a fortnight earlier.
Former Town centre Perry Whiteley (Dewsbury) is top of the League One try scoring charts with eight in six matches.
Sam Smeaton (Doncaster), Jordan Paga (Oldham) and Sabutey (Workington) have scored seven tries each.
Sabutey is a Ghana international who joined Town on a one-year contract from Glebe Dirty Reds, who play in the Ron Massey Cup in Australia.
Coach Anthony Murray said: ““The lads inside him have done well to provide him with the space to get away and he has the pace to finish.
“But he’s done more for us than score tries because he’s been involved in clearing runs from our own line.
“He has settled in really well and we are all delighted for him and with how he’s been performing.”
The League One team of the month as chosen by Rugby League World is: Owen Restall, Jack Render, Brad Hey, Davy Dixon, Sean Sabutey, Cameron Brown, Callum Turner, Luke Nelmes, Reiss Butterworth, Harvey Hallas, Sam Smeaton, Zac Baker, Sam Day.
