Whitehaven have suffered a blow with confirmation that full-back Sam Freeman will miss the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old Freeman had to leave the Good Friday game at Barrow with a knee problem and subsequent scans have confirmed he has a recurrence of an old ACL injury.
It’s a severe blow to the player as he missed the whole of the 2022 season in rehab from the original injury he picked up the season previous.
A former Widnes Viking and Rochdale Hornets player who is equally at home at full back or wing, as well as an accomplished goal kicker. Freeman burst onto the scene with the Vikings back in 2019.
He scored four tries on his home debut against York City Knights but he moved on to Rochdale for the curtailed 2020 season. He stayed with the Hornets for 2021 before suffering the first serious knee injury.
He had been a long-term target for Haven head coach Jonty Gorley and despite being on the side-lines the club kept in touch with him. Indeed he attended several of Haven’s matches last season before completing the registration for the current campaign.
With Whitehaven Freeman has played in seven games, scored two tries and kicked 11 goals for a points haul of 30 for the club.
