The work starts now for Workington manager Danny Grainger as he looks to consolidate his achievements with the Reds in the League above.
Victory over Runcorn Linnets in Saturday’s play-off final means the west Cumbrians will be playing next season in the NPL Premier Division.
Grainger is meeting up with his assistant Terry Mitchell tonight to discuss their requirements at the higher level and says he has already started talks with new players about next season.
As of this moment none of the current players have said they are leaving although there have been suggestions that three or four might be looking to move on.
“The players are having their own night out this weekend and then next week it’s our club presentation at Borough Park so after that I’m sure we will know of people’s plans.
“Terry and I will be discussing who we’d like to stay and who we can try to bring to the club. I have already talked with players about joining us but it’s early days at the moment,” said Grainger.
Reds completed their season on Tuesday night with an emphatic 9-1 win over Penrith in the Fred Conway County Cup final, which may be a record score.
Grainger finished the game with three 17-year-olds in the side and bringing on youngsters is part of his policy at the club.
Lewis Moore scored one of the best goals of the game after starting while Zack Martin and Zack Lester showed their potential as second half substitutes.
“We have some good young players at the club and we want to keep on developing them and bringing them through. I think a lot of young Lewis in particular and he’s been involved with the first team already in League fixtures,” said Grainger.
