A court has heard how a Carlisle woman pushed one police constable in the chest and spat at another as she turned aggressive late at night.
City magistrates were told how the officers located a car during the early hours of April 16 which had been involved in an incident the previous evening.
A male in the vehicle was arrested. Claire Boswell, 40, was also inside the vehicle. She refused to get out and was described as being heavily drunk and verbally aggressive with officers.
After getting out, she approached police and twice pushed one PC forcefully in the chest with no injury caused.
Boswell was also spitting and was told by police to stop. She replied by making an abusive comment before spitting at the second officer with saliva landing on his leg.
Boswell, formerly of Petteril Terrace, Carlisle, later said she couldn’t really remember much of what had happened.
In court this morning, she admitted assaults on two emergency workers and was said to have 88 previous offences on her criminal record.
Her past convictions included a serious assault dating back to 2015, a robbery in 2017 and since then an offence of arson.
A probation officer who spoke to Boswell concluded she had shown genuine regret for her offending. She had told the bench “I didn’t mean to do it” and also of an intention to take up support being offered.
Magistrates imposed a year-long community order during which time Boswell must work with the probation service in a bid to rehabilitate. She was also fined £160.
