A Carlisle man is to stand trial later this year accused of driving over a police officer’s foot while on his mobility scooter and the alleged illegal production of scissors in a public place.
James Edward Harris, 52, appeared at the city’s magistrates’ court this morning.
Harris pleaded not guilty to two charges which arose out of an incident in central Carlisle on October 30.
One alleges that he assaulted a PC — the prosecution say by driving over the foot of an officer who was seeking; the second alleges the illegal possession of a bladed article in Lowther Street — a pair of scissors which are said by the prosecution to have been produced in a public place.
Harris, of Pillar Close, Carlisle, is due to stand trial at the magistrates’ court on a date to be fixed in due course.
In the meantime he was granted bail.
