Barrow Raiders have announced boardroom departures from the club, including Scott Deakin who was also the team manager of the successful Furness Raiders side.

Revealing his decision to leave, the club said on its official website: “He has primarily been responsible for the Furness Raiders team and can be proud of the fact that he has taken the team to Development Academy status.

“The RFL has recognised the work done by the Raiders with the pathways that they have provided to professional rugby league, and Scott has played no small part in that.

“Family matters have played a major part in his decision to step down. The fact that he has found the time to fulfil the role and care for his ill wife, Sarah, is testament to his commitment.

“However, after three years as a director and two years in the Furness Raiders role it is time concentrate on Sarah and follow the fortunes of his aspiring son, Kane, who looks to have a great future in the game.

“We wish Scott all the best and hope that everything goes well with family matters.”

His departure follows that of Jack Fawcett, who has left his role as events director.

The club said: “Jack had been instrumental in the success of our events programme, especially during the summer of 2021 when we managed to be the place to be during the European Championships.

“The fact that we were so inventive during COVID was a lot to do with the vision of Jack Fawcett. A new job and increased work commitments meant that he couldn’t commit the time to continue the role, and we wish him every success in his new venture.

“In the previous six months, Darren Herbert, John Coward and Craig Boothroyd have stepped down from their positions but requested that they leave without fanfare.

“Nevertheless, we would like to thank them all for their time and dedication to the role.

“We hope to be in a position to announce some new board members in the very near future, and the door is open for further candidates with a shared vision and work ethic.”
