
Keswick Museum is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a summer fair this month.
The fair, on Saturday May 27 from noon to 3pm is a celebration of the museum’s collection and its connection to Fitz Park.
The free event takes place in Lower Fitz Park and throughout the museum galleries.
Black Knight Historical will provide living history interpretation (with live actors) across six distinct epochs related to the museum’s collection and the local area:
- Neolithic woman
- Roman soldier
- Viking warrior
- Tudor surgeon
- Victorian soldier
- First World War/1920s lady
Entry to the whole museum will be free on the day of the event.
Museum staff and volunteers will be running family arts and crafts workshops linked to the collection, as well as object handling and Ask the Curator sessions.
There will also be:
- Live music on the Musical Stones of Skiddaw and from Keswick School.
- A Stone Age cookery demonstration by Escape Education
- Storytelling with Becky and Digby
- Face painting by Kaleidoscope Faces
- Displays by Cumbria Wildlife Trust and local groups
- A local falconer to talk to visitors about his beautiful birds (no flying demonstration)
- The Wild Escape Exhibition of work by local school children in the museum’s Community Gallery
