Zac and Jake with Green Flyer winner of the Open Maidens at Lowther Park, Cold Fell

Entries were down for the HTA’s return to Cold Fell for their follow-up meeting from Saturday and members were probably put off by the wet weather.

The senior trail was won by Stephen Riley and Isla Hetherington’s Cautious, who might only be small but she can run as she some stiff competition with Denis Pear and Jackie Gill’s Miterdale Duchess finishing in second with Willie and Daphne Mark’s Summer Spirit finishing in third place.

Saturday’s winner the 2022 puppy champion Huntsman’s Rebel could only manage fifth this time.

The open puppy race was won by Laura Steele, Andrew and Joel Bulman and Ian Rumney’s Embrace. The win took him two clear of Mel at the top of the puppy championship,

The Napier family’s Foxparke Fair Lady finished in second place with Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson’s Pigeon Bill taking third.

Green Flyer owned by Zac and Jake Green from Cleator Moor came home first in the open maidens. It was a nice win for the lads who are relatively new to the sport. Green Flyer beat Eden Romina for David Clifford from Penrith.

Andrew Bulman with Embrace winner of the pups at Oulton on Thursday.

The last race of the day for open restricted hounds was won by Biff for Graham Reid, beating home Denton Shamrock owned by  Sandra Mordue and co with their other hound Mr Finnigan taking third.

Sarah Harper’s hound Delta Style was placed fourth so it was nice to see some of the association’s new members from the Borders getting tickets.

The next meeting will be at Kirkland on Thursday, May 11 with the first race slip at 6pm. This will be the first of three there over the next week-and-a-half.
