This year’s Idris Trophy semi-finals in the Carlisle and District Snooker and Billiards League have been completed ahead of next month’s final.

Mally Lancaster beat fellow team-mate Mark Ballantyne in a two frame aggregate score match at the Buffs club.

Both players played well, with Lancaster excelling in the second frame as he completed an excellent 67 break to seal the match.

In the second semi final between Matt Lowrie and Mike Griffiths, it was Lowrie who started off in brilliant fashion.

A 35 break added to his 10-point head start for a 45-0 advantage and he continued this excellent form and was 80-56 ahead at the end of the first frame.

In the second frame, however, Griffiths made a 51 break followed by a 24 to seal the match with a final score of 139-81.

The final will be at the Qzone, 7.30pm on Thursday June 15.

In the first of the Team KO semi finals, sponsored by Woodpecker Kitchens, Annan and Qzone faced each other at the Rock, The competition is over an aggregate of five frames, with Annan receiving a handicap of five per frame.

Each frame was a tight and cagey affair, with safety a top priority, and Qzone made a great start with Chris Forrester beating Annan’s number one Paul Whelan 61-33.

Jack Carlisle pulled some points back for Annan in the second frame with an excellent 52-51 win over Ian Pattinson, and in the third, a long frame saw Paul Wright overcome in-form Lindsay Currie 62-35 to stretch Qzone’s lead.

Giles Finneghan played through the pain barrier in the fourth frame in defeating Annan’s Richard Andrew 68-29, to give Qzone a 68 point lead going into the final frame where Paul Corbishley brought the tie home with a 73-32 victory over Mike Clarke.

Qzone await the result of the second semi-final between the Rock and Eastriggs, in what is sure to be a close and intriguing final.
