Cockermouth moved through to the semi-final of the Higson Cup with a convincing win by 110 runs over Carlisle at Edenside.
The Sandair side, who seem to be moving into top gear after a slow start to the season, were put in to bat by their hosts – and certainly weren’t fazed by that decision.
All the top six got into double figures with prominent contributions from four of them – skipper Matthew Sempill (58), professional Sameera Sadamal (34), Alex Grainger (33) and Sam Sharp (24).
Carlisle’s county spinner Nico Watt (3-24) was Carlisle’s leading bowler as Cockermouth finished their 45 overs on 207-9.
The hosts lost two wickets for 17 and just when skipper Michael Slack (43) and Watt (17) appeared to be digging them out of trouble four wickets tumbled for the addition of just one run and and at 62-6 they were in deep trouble.
Slack had stayed through the carnage but when he went at 94-8 the end was in sight and it was Sadamal who finished-off the Carlisle innings by taking 4-5 from 3.3 overs. Josh Brown had 2-24 and Matthew Siddall took 2-31.
Carlisle were bowled-out for 97 in 32.3 overs to join Furness in the semi-finals.
The other two quarter finals are Keswick v Whitehaven, to be played on Bank Holiday Monday and Workington v Cleator (June 11).
