Furness College in Barrow is holding an adult education open evening.
From HNC’s to degrees, short courses to evening classes, online learning and apprenticeships the college has a range of options – some of which are free to study – to help people improve their skills, learn new ones, and advance their careers.
The event will take place at the college’s Channelside campus from 4pm to 6pm on May 24 with staff on hand.
Assistant principal for curriculum Sue Hannan urged people who were considering their career options to come along.
She said, “Whether you are employed or looking for work, we have a range of courses that will help you get where you want to be.
“We revamped our adult courses at the beginning of this year to reflect the skills people were needing in the current jobs market.”
Many courses are delivered at the state-of-the-art Channelside campus, while others can be delivered via distance learning to offer maximum flexibility to learners.
Sue added: “In addition, applications are now open for our higher education programmes.
“These include degrees in teaching and engineering and HNCs in health, computing, construction and business which start in September and can be studied here in Barrow, part-time around work and family commitments.”
For information about how to finance studies, there will be sessions on student finance and a talk on apprenticeships as well as information about access to university.
Support worker Millie Treen is studying the Access to University course with the goal of going to university and becoming a midwife.
She said: “I wanted to fit a part-time course around work. I would encourage anyone thinking of going back to education to do it. The anticipation is the worst part and it’s not been as daunting as I thought, the tutors really help you back into it.”
