Two more players sign up for Workington Reds

It’s been a busy week for Workington Reds with two more players signing up again for the promoted Borough Park club.

Holding midfielder Ceiran Casson, 21, was one of the first players that manager Danny Grainger brought to the club when he landed the Reds job.

He had seen him shape his youth career at Carlisle United and believed he would readily adapt to the NPL.

After a hugely promising first season, in which he was linked at one time to a Premier League club, injuries have limited his appearances particularly in the last campaign.

But he has remained an important member of the squad, as was emphasised at the end of the season when he filled-in at centre-back because of other injury issues within the team.

Casson, 21, said: “I’m still excited over the finish to last season to be honest and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve next year in the league above.

“I’m really looking forward to being back with the boys again for another year.”

Also committing to Reds for another season is midfielder turned full-back Greg McCarragher.

It’s another string to his bow as McCarragher started his career at Fleetwood Town as a promising centre-back. He has also played at Kendal Town and Penrith.

He said: “It was an easy decision to sign on for another season with the Reds. Last season was special and it’s what this group deserved. There’s no reason why we can’t keep pushing on.”

Casson and McCarragher join Conor Tinnion, Dan Wordsworth, Lewis Reilly, Dav Symington and Keelan Leslie in re-signing for the 2023/24 season.
