Two of Carlisle’s own have made a splash at a national event.
Beverley Young, the inspiring coach of Carlisle’s Man v Fat Football Club, clinched the title of North’s Coach of the Year at the prestigious national Man v Fat Football Awards in Manchester.
The honour underscored the extraordinary hard work and unwavering dedication that Beverley has consistently shown.
The awards ceremony was held at the National Football Museum and hosted by comedian and TV celebrity Tom Davis. The event recognised the accomplishments of individuals who have made a substantial difference in the health and wellbeing of others right across the UK.
Fondly referred to as “always willing to go the extra mile,” “deserving the keys to the city,” and “a force of nature” by her players, Beverley’s triumph is a resounding acknowledgment of her remarkable contributions.
Beverley said: “It was an amazing evening, with so many worthy winners amongst players, coaches, referees, top weight losers, community heroes and lots more. What men can achieve by being part of this amazing programme is outstanding.
“I’m so proud to play a part of it as coach in the only club in Cumbria. I’m also pretty proud to be the only female nominee and winner!”
The Carlisle league’s Dan McAulay was a nominee in the Media Mogul category.
He said: “Being part of the Carlisle club for the past couple of years has been so good for my physical and mental health. I’d recommend it to anyone! The supportive and friendly atmosphere at the club is great: everyone has got each other’s back on and off the pitch, regardless of what colour shirt they wear on a Monday night.
“As part of the club, I’ve had the opportunity to bring my marketing skills to the table, putting together weekly videos that celebrate our successes and share our story with a broader audience. I’m really thankful to those that took the time out to nominate me for the Media Mogul award. Representing Carlisle on a national stage was a real honour!”
Man v Fat Carlisle, with its blend of football and a supportive weight-loss programme, offers a friendly environment where men improve their health and wellbeing. The league has recorded over 1,200lb lost and has significantly boosted participants’ physical and mental health.
