Maryport Youth Rugby has hosted the annual Year 2 rugby taster festival for the local schools.
Seventeen teams entered from the six schools involved and the aim of the day was to give Year 2 children a taster into Rugby league with a touch rugby festival format.
A lot of new faces were on show, and the organisers hope that the kids will have enjoyed it enough to sign on for one of the local clubs.

A special thanks was offered to the Netherhall School children for helping to run the day, as well as the Maryport Amateur Rugby Club youth coaches Mark Ivison, Craig Ivson, Ian Ivison, Simon Pattinson, Leanne Foster, Steve Newton Lister, Scott Adam and Ben Carter for giving up free time to host the day.
The youth coaches currently go around schools to host taster rugby PEA events as an introduction to rugby, to encourage the kids to play in the not so distant future.

Schools attending were: Our Lady and St Patrick’s Catholic primary school, Dearham primary school, Netherton infant school, Ellenborough academy, Grasslot infant school and Maryport Church of England primary school.
Paul Williamson of Firpress provided all the kids who took part with special certificates.
