Egremont and Dalton were the latest winners in the Cumbria League’s T20 tournament which has just got under way.
In the West group Egremont won by five wickets at Whitehaven while in the South Dalton surprised Millom with victory by four runs in a cliff-hanger.
At Whitehaven the home side batted first and with runs at the top of the order eventually managed 103-5.
Captain Stephen Holliday (26) and professional Terance Warde put on 52 for the second wicket after opener Leo Sanczuk had gone for 11.
Then it was left to Warde with 43 not out off 41 deliveries who was largely responsible for Whitehaven topping a hundred in their 20 overs.
Coady Scott was the most successful Egremont bowler with 2-22 from four, although Alex Hodgson bowled four very tight overs, conceding just nine runs.
Whitehaven used seven bowlers to try and stem the flow but Egremont were in a hurry and reached 106-5 after only 13.2 overs.
Professional Vathsal Govind led them home with 42 not out off 34 balls with solid help from Matthew Hunter (21 off 14) and Ollie Wilford (19 off 16).
Division One leaders Dalton, who have won all four games after relegation, surprised Millom after deciding to bat first.
They got to 116-7 off their 20 overs led by Wyll Stanway (33), Elliot Maxfield (23), Callum Leach (22) and Hadley Tunstall (20no).
For Millom Paul O’Callaghan took 3-11 and Braith Conner had 3-13.
All of Millom’s top five reached double figures, notably Tom Wilkinson (29), Robert Thompson (19) and Graham Dawson (18), and they also had the assistance of 14 wides.
But in the end they fell short, only on 112-7 after their 20 overs.
Lewis Bayman was the leading Dalton bowler with 2-9 from two overs.
