‘Let’s get Carlisle back on the map again’ – Carlisle United boss Nigel Clibbens

Carlisle United are in an interesting group for next season’s EFL Trophy competition.

They will play a bogey team and a side they have just changed leagues with!

For the Blues will be up against Harrogate Town, a team they haven’t enjoyed much luck against and Accrington Stanley who were relegated to League Two.

Their will be a fourth team in the group – northern Group C – but that won’t be revealed until tomorrow.

The opposition will be an invited Under-21 team from one of eight Premier League clubs – Everton, Liverpool, Leicester City, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest or Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Meanwhile the club’s chief executive Nigel Clibbens has been telling the club’s website how he’s used the recent EFL summer get-together to glean as much information as possible about life in League One.

He said: “I was at the EFL Conference the week before last, and you see lots of people that you’ve seen in other years, but it’s different, because you’re now playing them,” he said.

“It’s a case of ‘see you in a few weeks’. I’ve spent quite a bit of time with the guys from Stevenage, Northampton, talking about how they are getting on and what they were saying about things.

“Also the likes of Exeter and Port Vale and Cheltenham who, in many ways, are quite similar to us, and have come from our division, that have made that adjustment and have done reasonably well in that division.

“I wanted to find out how they found it, what they found most difficult. There were no surprises – I’ve been a CEO in League One before, I know what it’s like, and similarly the Championship.

“There won’t be many surprises, but it will be a bit different at the beginning. We’ll look forward to some big crowds and fans having a great season.

“That’s what we want, for everybody to enjoy it, and let’s try and put Carlisle back on the map again.”
